Government statistics are wonderfully curious are they not? Whilst the government quotes statistics of 7.8 % unemployment, the real figure is 21.2%. This is the proportion of the labour force neither in work nor looking for a job – this is people who could work but are not. The absolute number of people who fall into this category at the moment is 8.046 MILLION – the highest since records began.
As the recession continues there is a real risk that people who have been unemployed for some time will give up their job seeking and become permanent statistics. Their children are also more likely to be long term unemployed (or never employed). Scarey staff ….. and just remember, this figure is 21.2% not 7.8%
